Your Commitment to Your Baby

You have chosen to make breastfeeding a part of your life because you
understand the benefits for your baby and for yourself.  Despite the
natural urge to breastfeed, some mothers experience difficulties. That is
the time to seek support. Breastfeeding can be challenging for some and
frustrating for many. North Shore Lactation respects your efforts to
breastfeed and will support you in any way you need. Together we will
take the time to find the right solution to your breastfeeding needs.
Resolution of a breastfeeding problem often takes several days or weeks,
while the advice given by North Shore Lactation is effective in most
instances, success depends, in large part, on follow-through with the
recommendations.

The Investment

A Mother's milk is best for babies. It contains living cells, hormones, active
enzymes, immunoglobulins, and compounds with unique structures that
cannot be replicated in infant formula.  Breast-fed infants have lower rates
of hospital admissions, ear infections, diarrhea, rashes, allergies, and
other medical problems than formula-fed babies.  Health experts agree
breast-feeding saves consumers money on both infant formula and health-
care costs. In the first year of formula feeding you can anticipate to spend
about $1,500 - $2,000 on formula alone. Add to that the cost of bottles,
liners, nipples and other supplies that are also required and it's easy to
see that breastfeeding is the best choice for your baby and your
pocketbook.

Breastfeeding is the best investiment you can make for the health and
well being of your baby.  It requires time and patience but the rewards are
priceless.
